Webify Your Resume

If you're going to post your resume to a recruitment web site, you’ll want to write a resume that is useful and user-friendly for the web. First, you've got to write the words that will bring up your profile when a recruiter in your industry searches for qualified candidates for a specific job opportunity. Then you'll need to know what format is best for posting.

Keyword Resume

Keywords are words or phrases (skills, experience, industries, industry jargon) that are used to search. Include keywords to invite recruiters and companies to your profile. This doesn't mean that you should include every feasible keyword in your resume. But you will want to write your resume in a traditional format and then extract keywords by which a recruiter may search, and create a keyword resume. Not only should those words demonstrate your skills and experience, but they should also reflect the type of job you wish to find.

ASCII Plain Text Resume

What type of document (ASCII plain text, ASCII rich text, HTML) should you use for posting a resume on a job board? We recommend using ASCII plain text for cutting and pasting a resume into your profile onto BrilliantPeople.com.

Before saving a document in ASCII plain text format:

*Remove any formatting in your original word processing document. Do not use bold, italic, graphics or bullet points. Distinguish categories, such as "education" and "experience," with capital letters and double-spaces between each.

*We recommend that you use a bullet-point format for readability, but use asterisks or dashes instead of bullets. Bullets do not transfer to plain text format.

*Set your margins at seven (7) inches or less. A maximum of 80 characters per line is recommended to avoid long lines of text across the width of the page.

*Use separate lines for name, address and email address. This information may blend together and be difficult for the reader to comprehend.

*Use a separate line for job title, company name, location and employment dates.
